Family Literacy
Family literacy refers to the way parents, children, and extended family members use literacy at home and in the community. Family literacy occurs naturally during the routines of daily living and helps children and adults get things done. We offer free family literacy across the Kootenay Boundary region and invite parents, caregivers, and the other significant people in a children's life, to join us at one of our free programs. Learning and growing is a part of life and the most important learning happens right from the moment a child is born. Learning how to form words, sing rhymes, sort socks, counting on your fingers, recognize words, and learning how to hold a crayon are all examples of early literacy skills. Family literacy programs are designed to enhance the skills parents and caregivers already have all while sharing in a rich learning experience and connecting with other families. |
