The Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) is passionate about community partnerships. We believe we can do more when we collaborate with local groups and organizations. In 2017-18, more than 170 organizations partnered with us to deliver literacy programs and services. The partnership between CBAL and Kootenay Family Place (KFP) in Castlegar is one example of an outstanding community relationship.

CBAL and KFP joined forces over a decade ago. Working together has been a benefit to both organizations, as well as to hundreds of individuals and families. Lynnene Lewis, Director of Quality Assurance and Director of Family Programs at KFP, has this to say about the collaboration. “Partnering with CBAL has allowed both agencies to offer more services to families. The relationship has always been respectful, meaningful and beneficial. It is an easy, complementary fit.”

CBAL and KFP currently partner to deliver three programs in Castlegar –  ESL Family Time, Together to Learn and ESL Conversation Club. The two organizations share their resources (staff, supplies and space) with each other and work together to refer participants to outside support services. CBAL is grateful to have the opportunity to work with Kootenay Family Place as well as many other organizations throughout the Columbia Basin and Boundary.
