"Greetings from the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy Board of Directors. In this document you’ll find wonderful pictures and statistics that reveal the broad reach and profound impact CBAL makes throughout the Kootenay and Boundary regions. From the one-to-one tutoring program to family literacy and newcomer settlement services, CBAL volunteers, employees and learners are making bold strides forward in their exploration of literacy and learning. "Throughout the Columbia Basin and Boundary region, literacy volunteers, employees and learners meet on common ground to explore growth and learning, to have fun and to improve their lives.  The effects can be profound, changing the very foundation of how a person sees themself.  They can be permanent, transforming the values upon which a community bases its identity.  And they can be cumulative, with one small change in the way a person lives life rippling outward to touch family, community, workplace and friends.  This is good work; it matters deeply in our world."

"CBAL has grown over the past 15 years through the hard work and commitment of its staff and volunteers, who are supported by a dedicated Board of Directors and many generous funders and community partners. Together they are innovative, industrious, and caring as they manage the organization, interact with learners, develop new and responsive programming, and build awareness of and support for literacy. Together, they make change happen."

"(Literacy) can be profound, changing the very foundation of how a person sees himself. It can be permanent, transforming the values upon which a community bases its identity. And it can be cumulative, with one small change in the way a person lives life rippling outward to touch family, community, workplace, and friends – and then rippling even further from there to ultimately build a better, stronger world in which we all can grow, share, and prosper together."

"CBAL is an organization of collaboration. With a network of generous funders and supportive partners, CBAL can offer programming deep and wide in scope and can validate literacy work as indispensable. We are graced by their appetite for meaningful contribution and building community together."
