Calendar of Program Times for Slocan Valley (PDF)

A Book Under Every Tree
– gathers books during November and early December for distribution to families receiving hampers at Christmas.

Books for Babies
– brings a canvas bag with baby’s book and community information regarding programs for parenting and for children to families with newborns through the public health unit.

Aboriginal Books for Babies
– as with our other Books for Babies program, but directed to Aboriginal families and delivered through the Aboriginal Infant Development Program at Brent Kennedy Learning Centre.

Tots Playtime Plus!
– is a drop-in program available for families with preschool children to play and learn together. There are crafts, a circle-time, free and structured play. Special guests visit to share their knowledge about early learning, health, and to lend a hand with dance, music and art.

Mother Goose
– is a program for parents and caregivers with babies and toddlers that encourages healthy language development. Rhymes, songs, finger-plays and stories are taught over a period of eight weeks.

One to One
– trains community volunteers to read with children in school. Children in the program read with a volunteer four times a week for half an hour.

Adult Computer Classes
– offer adults an opportunity to improve their computer skills, including word processing, file management, formatting text, creating tables, email and using the internet. Workshops focus on refreshing specific skills like organizing your stuff and using social networks.

The Math Lab
– makes an experienced math tutor available to students, (12 years to adult) each week through the school year.

Nelson Municipal Library Outreach
– is running until December 3rd 2009. Valley residents can drop in on Thursday evenings at the Winlaw School to register for a library card, browse and borrow books, DVDs and audio books or return materials.
