Family Literacy Drop In
     – families are invited to drop by or call with any questions or requests for information. This is an opportunity to ask about any concerns, our current programs, workshops or use the ‘Share the Word’ Book Exchange program.
Books for Babies
   – a bag with baby’s book and community information regarding programs for parenting and for children is given to families with newborns through the public health unit. Each family is then invited to a library Books for Babies program where they can relax with snacks, singing and a library tour.
Parent-Child Mother Goose
   – Come join us in sharing rhymes, songs, stories and giggles with your child. Don’t let the name Mother Goose mislead you – Dads and other family members are welcome too! This program is offered in partnership with our community Speech and Language pathologist.
Little Goslings Activity Time
    – Older siblings of Mother Goose babies are invited to attend. This is designed like a short pre-school circle time. The children have fun with rhymes, stories and a craft with a qualified facilitator.
One to One
   – community volunteers are trained to read with children in school. Children in the program read with a volunteer 4 times a week for ½ hour. Our strategies are aimed at increasing self-confidence and skills. Volunteers make a difference!
Family Night Out
    – an evening program for the whole family to enjoy. Homework club, preschool circle, storytelling, and family group activities are all part of this family time learning together.
Parents as Literacy Supporters (PALS)
    – a program offered in partnership with School District #19. Each PALS session is an opportunity for parents to join their children at kindergarten to take part in activities and learn strategies to support children's language, literacy and numeracy development.
Parents of Primary Students (POPS)
    –  an extension of the PALS program for parents of Grade One and Two students. Session focuses will include quality family experiences and learning around reading, writing and math. The program includes participating in learning activities, adult discussion sessions and take home kits!
Roots of Empathy
    – a parenting program for children delivered in school classrooms. A baby is introduced in each class and visits throughout the year. The children participate in a curriculum to identify the developmental traits of the baby, discuss various aspects of childraising, and explore their own emotions as they observe the baby. This program is designed to assist children to develop empathy.
Story Adventure Kits
    –  Fun take-home kits to borrow and discover the magic of imagination. Kits will include a book and engaging activities for families to explore together. These kits are available at the StrongStart Centre and the Child Care Society’s Early Learning Resource Lending Library.
The Goose is Loose
    –  a Mother Goose facilitator joins early learning programs throughout the community to share songs and rhymes. The facilitator is available to discuss early learning and development with families and care providers.
Stress Free Reading At Home Workshops
    – is a parent workshop that has grown out of the One to One tutor trainings. The program’s aim is 3 fold: to share ideas, materials and stories with parents; to help parents lessen the stress and increase the enjoyment of reading at home with their children; and to answer specific questions and concerns parents may have around supporting their children’s reading.
Homework Club
    – an after school program for parents and children of all ages to work together on skills to help with school success
