A Book Under Every Tree
   –  gathers books during November and early December for distribution to families receiving hampers at Christmas. Communities participating: Nakusp
Parent-Child Mother Goose
   –  is a program for babies and toddlers that encourages early language development. Rhymes, songs, finger-plays and stories are taught to parents and children over a period of several weeks. Communities participating:
  • Nakusp –Nakusp Public Library, Mondays 10-11:30 am
  • New Denver – Knox Hall, Wednesdays 10 – 11:30 am
  • Edgewood – Edgewood Elem. School, Mondays 10- 12:00 pm
One-to-One
   –  trained community volunteers read with children in school. Children in the program read with a volunteer three times a week for half an hour. Schools participating: NES, BES, LESS, EES
Roots of Empathy
   –  is a parenting program for children delivered in school classrooms. A baby is introduced in each class and visits throughout the year. The children participate in a curriculum to identify the developmental traits of the baby, discuss various aspects of child-raising, and explore their own emotions as they observe the baby. School participating: NES, LESS, EES Weekly for 1 hour.
Family Night Out
      – A program for families with preschoolers. Families attend with their children and enjoy a variety of literacy activities from arts and crafts to songs, stories and gym time. Soup and Bun provided. Weekly on Wednesdays from 5-7:00pm
Homework Club
   – to assist children with their homework as well as provide a nutritious after school snack. Offered at LESS in New Denver.
Weekly for 1 hour.
StrongStart Early Learning Centres
   – Free program to families with children birth – five. Program is offered 5 days per week and 3 hours per day at both NES, LESS and Outreach program in the Southern Zone.
Sharing the love of reading
      –  Librarian goes into the classroom and does literacy activities to instill the love of reading in children. Lucerne Elementary School
English as a Second Language
   – offers individuals seeking to improve their English, including reading, writing and speaking, one-on-one or group-based instruction. Communities participating: Nakusp and New Denver.
CAP Site
   – Community Access to computers and the internet. Communities participating: Nakusp; houses our adult literacy program coordinator office and CBAL resources; offers all business services at low cost to public; rebuilds computers to give to families in need!
Open 6 days a week!
Adult Tutoring Program
   – offers seniors an opportunity to improve their computer skills, learn how to e-mail and use the internet.
Offered in Burton and Nakusp.
Reading to Senior’s
   – New Denver Pavilion; weekly reading program provided to disabled and frail senior citizens who can no longer read themselves.
