Homework Club
– an afterschool club that offers extra help with language arts and math. There are fun reading activities and games.Creative Dance and Storytime
– a fun preschool program that uses storytelling, books, creative dance and crafts to explore different themes over a period of eight weeks.Family Literacy Day Celebration
– Throughout the community, events are held to celebrate literacy.Festive Family Storytime
– guest musicians and storytellers providing stories and songs. A free book for every family.Girl’s Eye View
– A program for girls grades 5 though 7 that aims to increase self-esteem in “tween” girls through journaling, discussion, crafts, physical activity and guest speakers.One to One Reading
– Community volunteers are trained to read with children in school. Children in the program read with a volunteer 4 times a week for ½ hour. Our strategies are aimed at increasing self-confidence and skills. Volunteers make a difference!Parent-Child Mother Goose
– (Infant and Toddler programs) Rhymes, songs, finger plays and stories are taught to parents/caregivers and children aged newborn to 4 years over a period of eight weeks.Saturdays at Strong Start
– an activity club for older siblings of StrongStart participants. Board games, books, puzzles, crafts and gym time make Saturdays fun.The Sharing Books Box
– a box of books either given or taken to different programs, open houses, literacy events, full of free, gently used reading material. Program participants are encouraged to help themselves to as many books as they would like to keep. Boxes can be found at each of the family centres located throughout the Boundary.Adult Tutoring Program
– One-to-one instruction for adults wishing to improve their reading, writing and/or math skills. This includes individual help for those needing assistance preparing for the citizenship exams, learners’ driver's test, and basic computer skills.Computer Literacy for Seniors
– Offers Seniors an opportunity to improve their computer skills, including word processing, file management, formatting text, creating tables, email and using the internet. Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced classes offered.Family Literacy Day Celebration
– Sat. Jan. 23, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at the Creston Public Library, join us for a fun packed morning of music by Elena Yeung and Carl Sommerfeld featuring some of Elena’s newest original children’s songs, and keen competition for prizes in our “Read the Tongue-twisters” contest. Hot chocolate and popcorn will be served as well as many fun activities.English as a Second Language Class
– is a small multi-level group for English as a Second Language learners. The focus is on oral and written work. All are welcome. There is a continual intake of students.English as a Second Language Tutoring Program
– is a program for individuals seeking to improve and enhance their English language development. Students are provided with one-to-one tutoring and work on both oral and written work.Special Needs Class
– One to one and small group work on a variety of literacy skills with students from the Transitional Training course at Selkirk College.Stress Free Reading at Home
– is a parent workshop that is linked closely to the One to One Reading program. The program’s aim is three fold: to share ideas, materials and stories with parents; to help parents lessen the stress and increase the enjoyment of reading at home with their children; and to answer specific questions and concerns parent may have around supporting their children’s reading.Sunshine Valley Community Literacy Program
– a program that takes place in a small-class format and aims to develop reading, writing and comprehension skills with participants of SVCS, an adult day program for people accessing services through the Society for Community Living.Writing Out Loud
