Early Learning Programs (Birth to 6)
Books for Babies
– This program provides new parents with a bag containing a book for parents to share with their baby, information about the importance of reading to children from a very young age, and community information regarding programs and services for parents and children. The book bags are distributed by the nurses at the Interior of Health to families with newborns at the child’s first appointment/immunization. This program is offered in partnership with Golden Interior Health.Mother Goose
– Rhymes, songs, fingerplays and stories are taught to parents and children ages birth to 6 over a period of 10 weeks. This program is offered in partnership with StrongStart and Parson Kids’ Club.Baby Talk
is a program run by Golden Interior Health to provide parents with newborns information on topics such as nutrition, their baby’s development, and safety. CBAL will conduct workshops at this program to discuss babies and literacy and the important role that parents play in their baby’s development.Parents Reading, Children Succeeding
is a 6-week family literacy program for children ages 3 to 5 and their parents. The main purpose of the program is to share ideas and activities with parents that will help them support their children’s learning and help prepare their children for school. This program is offered in partnership with StongStart.Parents as Literacy Supporters (PALS)
, is a 6-week family literacy program for parents and their children who attend preschool or kindergarten. The goal of this program is to connect the learning that happens in the classroom to learning at home. This program aims to help parents support their children’s early literacy development. PALS is offered in partnership with StrongStart, Rocky Mountain School District, preschool providers and the Early Childhood Development Coalition.Programs for School–Aged Childern
One To One
– A reading program for students in grades 1 to 3. Its aim is to provide 30 minutes of structured tutoring 3-4 times a week for students who receive no learning assistance at school but are reading below grade level. The emphasis of the program is placed on building the child’s self-confidence, developing problem solving skills and providing one on one reading practice with a trained volunteer tutor. This program is offered in partnership with Rocky Mountain School District #6.Afterschool Shakedown
– An afterschool program for children in grades 3 to 7 to help them with homework and areas of difficulty such as reading and writing, as well as to increase self-confidence and discover that learning can be fun. This program is offered in partnership with the Lion’s Club and the Rocky Mountain School District #6.Afterschool Shakeup
– is an afterschool program for students in grades 8 to 12. During the first hour of the program, students can get help with any subject. If they are interested, they can participate in workshops based on student interest during the second hour. This program is offered in partnership with School District # 6 and partially funded by the Golden District Community Foundation.Adult Literacy
One on One Tutoring
– Adults will be able to improve their reading, writing, numeracy and basic computer skills with the help of a trained tutor.Small Group Classes
– Classes will be implemented depending on the needs and interests of adults in the community.Computer Skills for Work and Home
– Participants will develop skills to create documents, navigate the Web, complete online applications, set up accounts and use the computer to do online banking or taxes. This program is offered in partnership with the Golden Employment Services.Writing Out Loud
– This program aims to help people explore and effectively express their ideas in writing. This style of writing can also be helpful for people who want to work through personal conflicts. Will be offered in partnership with the Golden Women’s Centre
