Elkford Programs

Writing Out Loud
        –  “Writing Out Loud” is a fun, no-pressure writing program for adults. Creative writing activities will help your ideas flow, and make writing a relaxing, therapeutic experience. If you have always wanted to improve your writing skills, this is a great place to start. No experience or particular talent is necessary in this class - we just want to have fun!
  • For Whom: Adults (Aged 18 and up)
  • Where: Rocky Mountain Elementary Library
  • When: Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30
  • Start Date: February 3, 2010
  • End Date: April 21, 2010

Homework Club
        – Homework Club is a great place to get your homework out of the way, right away. Our tutors can help you; our snacks can feed you; and our warm environment can make homework a lot more enjoyable. See you there!
  • For Whom: Grades 1-6 students
  • Where: Rocky Mountain Elementary Library
  • When: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:20-4:20
  • Start Date: January 5, 2010
  • End Date: June 9, 2010
English as a Second Language Women’s Group
        – Are you new to Canada? Do you want to learn more English? Our ESL Women’s Group is a great place to learn English, meet new friends, and learn about Canadian culture. If you would like to attend this program, please drop in (pre-registration isn’t necessary).
  • For Whom: Women who speak English as a second language
  • Where: Elkford Recreation Centre
  • When: Thursdays (times will be decided on the first day of the program)
  • Start Date: February 4, 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • End Date: April 22, 2010

Sparwood Programs

LAPS (Learning and Parenting Skills)
            –  Learn strategies to hone your parenting     skills. During this 12-week program, you will spend time exploring     issues like positive discipline, communication, and nutrition,     while your children participate in a separate children’s program. This is a free, fun, and informative program. We hope to see you there!     
  • For Whom: Parents of young children, or parents-to-be
  • Where: Sparwood Public Library
  • When: Mondays from 1:00-3:30
  • Start Date: January 18, 2010
  • End date: April 19, 2010
*Class will not meet on March 8th and 15th due to Spring Break
Seniors’ Computer Course
            –Our Seniors’ Computer Course was very popular before Christmas, and we want to keep that momentum going. Ten more weeks of Seniors’ Computers will be offered starting on January 11th. Registration is on-going, so even if you haven’t attended before, you can still drop in. See you there!

Fernie Programs

Youth Writing Workshop
            – Would you like to learn some writing strategies         from professional writers? Do you want to see your work         published in a book? “Youth Writing Workshop” is a wonderful opportunity to accomplish both of these goals. For six weeks, you will write legends, mysteries, science fiction stories, poems, etc. with the guidance of the program facilitator, and occasional guest speakers. At the end of the program, one of your pieces will be published in a book. Come on out to “Youth Writing Workshop” and become a real author!         
  • For Whom: Students in grades 5-7
  • Where: Fernie Heritage Library
  • When: Wednesdays from 4:45-6:00
  • Start Date: January 13, 2010
  • End Date: February 17, 2010
  • Registration Deadline: January 8, 2010 (Registration forms can be picked up at Fernie Secondary, Isabella Dicken, or The Fernie Academy)
*Additional sessions may be offered if participants need more time to complete their book submissions.

Conversational English - College of the Rockies
                – This course is available for students at the College of the Rockies, as well as community members who would like to work on their English conversation skills. Please register for the course at the College of the Rockies. Fee subsidies are available through the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy.
