Children and Family Literacy Programs
Books for Babies gives each family in the community with a new baby a bag, which contains a book, a CD and information about programs for parents with young children.
Communities Behind Books gives or lends books to adults, children and youth in Meadow Creek, Kaslo, Harrop, Procter and Balfour.
Come Read With Me is an opportunity for parents to join their children in their Grade 1 classrooms to take part in activities and learn strategies to support their children's reading.
One to One Children’s Reading Program pairs struggling readers with trained volunteers to improve the children’s reading skills and confidence.
Parent and Child Time is a drop-in program where parents can spend time with their young children while enjoying the company and support of other families and enjoy circle time, toys, crafts, books, exploration activities, snacks and a lending library of parenting books and DVDs.
Reading Link Challenge is a “sport reading event” for children in Grades 4 and 5.
Run and Rhyme is a program for parents with young children that encourages early language development through active rhymes, songs, and physical movement.
Speaker Series for Parents shares information with parents on a wide variety of parenting topics.
Youth Book & Film Club is for youth nine to twelve years old who are interested in bonding over books and movies.
Adult Literacy Programs
Adult Tutoring provides one to one help with basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills, test preparation, and English as a Second Language.
Computer Classes and Workshops teach basic computer and iPad skills to adults so they can confidently participate in today’s computer world.
Digital Drop-in provides support on how to use tablets, cell phones and laptops.
Lifelong Learning Series presents a variety of events, speakers and workshops for adults interested in continuing their lifelong learning.
Money Skills Workshops share basic information to help demystify budgeting, banking and financial services, saving, credit, debt, income and taxes.
Telling Our Life Stories is a guided autobiography program for adults who want to get their stories out on paper. No previous autobiography experience is necessary.
