Books for Babies - a bag with a baby’s book, CD, DVD, t-shirt that says “Read To Me” and community information regarding programs for parenting and for children is given to families with newborns through the public health unit
English as a Second Language Tutoring Program - offers individuals seeking to improve and enhance their English language development, both oral and written, one-on-one or group-based instruction. We will be offering ESL tutor training Nov 2nd and 3rd. Jennifer Cliff-Marks will be hosting our ESL training On Friday, November 2nd for coordinators and Saturday, November 3rd for tutors.
Glenmerry After School Club - is an after school program that focuses on social interaction, anger management and healthy living. Students play games, read books, and participate in arts, crafts and outdoor activities.
Webster After School Club - is an after school program that focuses on social interaction, anger management and healthy living. Students play games, read books, and participate in arts, crafts and outdoor activities.
"Let's Read" - a variety of events held in April to promote literacy eg. author readings, writing workshops, family literacy programs, caught you reading contest (in partnership with Trail and District Public Library)
One to One - community volunteers are trained to read with children in school. Children in the program read with a volunteer 4 times a week for ½ hour. Trail and Castlegar Family Literacy partner to provide the volunteer tutor training.
Story Adventure Kits - are kits that include activities based around the reading of a book. The book and activities are developed by parents groups and What To Do program participants and placed in CBAL bags. The bags can then be borrowed from CBAL lending libraries.
Story Adventure Workshop - is designed to help parents develop Story Adventure Kits. Parents will have the opportunity to explore internet, and print resources, as well as learn about strategies to use books as a launch pad for other activities.
What to Do - is a program designed for children and youth who have taken the Babysitter’s Program. Each participant receives a copy of a book and a resource package that includes activities that connect with themes in the book.
Writing Out Loud - a writing program that improves writing skills and is an invaluable aid in self-discovery and learning to cope with problems.
Parent-Child Mother Goose - is a group experience for parents or caregivers and their babies and young children, focusing on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together.

Love 2 Learn - is a program for parents or caregivers and their preschoolers. Components of the program include parents and preschoolers exploring and learning together, a structured story time, parent discussions, a healthy snack, instructions on how to make simple materials and household items into “learning toys,” craft activities, and a book lending library.

Stress Free Reading at Home - is a parent workshop that has grown out of the One to One tutor trainings. The program’s aim is 3 fold: to share ideas, materials and stories with parents; to help parents lessen the stress and increase the enjoyment of reading at home with their children; and to answer specific questions and concerns parents may have around supporting their children’s reading.
Family Night Out - Out is a drop-in Family Literacy program where parents and children gather to be involved in activities that promote literacy skills. Some of the activities may include using and borrowing resources, science experiments, storytelling, games involving critical thinking skills, and listening to guest speakers.

Adult Basic Computer Classes - is a series of 8 computer classes. It offers adults and seniors the opportunity to improve their computer skills, including word processing, file management, formatting text, creating tables, email and using the internet.

English as a Second Language Conversation Club - offers learners one morning and one evening a week to get together for informal sessions filled with word games, reading, storytelling and conversation.
Starting Oct 15th. Twice a week for 30 weeks.
Monday mornings 9:30-11:00 am, Thursday evenings 7:00-8:30pm
Adult Tutoring Program - offers one-on-one and group instruction for adults wishing to improve their reading, writing, math, and computer literacy skills.
Tutor training is scheduled to take place at BCCS on Sat. Oct. 20 and Sun. Oct. 21 from 9-3:30pm.
Roots of Empathy - is a parenting program for children delivered in school classrooms. A baby is introduced in each class and visits throughout the year. The children participate in a curriculum to identify the developmental traits of the baby, discuss various aspects of child raising, and explore their own emotions as they observe the baby. This program is designed to assist children to develop empathy.

Lexia- an interactive computer based phonics program that gives adult learners extensive practice in decoding and vocabulary building. The computer sessions are paired with 1-1 tutoring to support the learning.
Rosetta Stone Learning Software - an interactive computer based English as a Second Language learning program that gives adult learners an opportunity to learn English in a natural way. Rosetta Stone uses a method that combines advanced interactive technology with native speakers and a rich visual environment, to mimic the complete immersion process we used to learn our first language. The computer sessions are paired with 1-1 tutoring to support the learning.
