Parent-Child Mother Goose - - rhymes, songs, fingerplays and stories taught to parents and children over a period of 10 weeks. This program is offered in partnership with the Golden Regional Library.

 

Books for Babies - - a canvas book bag containing a book for parents to share with their baby, information about the importance of reading to children from a very young age, and community information regarding programs and services for parents and children. The book bags are distributed by the nurses at the Interior of Health to families with newborns, at the child's first appointment/immunization. This program is offered in partnership with the Golden Regional Library and the Interior of Health

 

One To One - a reading program for students in grades 1 to 3. Its aim is to provide 30 minutes of structured tutoring 3-4 times a week for students who receive no learning assistance at school but are reading below grade level. The emphasis of the program is placed on building the child's self-confidence, developing problem solving skills and providing one on one reading practice with a trained volunteer tutor. This program is offered in partnership with Rocky Mountain School District #6.

 

Afterschool Shakedown - an afterschool program for children in grades 4 to 7 to help them with homework and areas of difficulty such as reading and writing, as well as to increase self-confidence and discover that learning can be fun.

 

Family Power - an evening program to engage parents and their children in fun, educational activities and to promote the importance of families working together to improve literacy skills.

 

Youth Programs - teens can participate in activities that interest them such as Monday night games, Wednesday night writing workshop and Friday night movie night. The goal is to improve literacy skills and promote a positive attitude towards learning.

 

Book Club for Adults - the goal is to start a book club by providing the resources and facilities and to encourage members of the book club to eventually facilitate their own discussion meetings
