Parent and Tot Fun Times (Parent-Child Mother Goose) - rhymes, songs, fingerplays and stories taught to parents and children over a period of several weeks. This program occurs in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford. Partners are: the Elkford Recreation Department, Sparwood District Council, Fernie Public Library, CAPC, Columbia Basin Family Resource Society-Family Resource Program and Nobody's Perfect

 

Books for Babies - a canvas book bag containing a book for parents to share with their baby, information about the importance of reading to children from a very young age, and community information regarding programs and services for parents and children. The book bags are distributed to families with newborns by the nurses at the Public Health Unit during the home visit. Partners are the Fernie Public Library and Public Health nurses

 

Gerri's Place - Family and adult literacy and support services in a community setting. This program offers adult upgrading provided by a College of the Rockies instructor, after school care for school-aged children, computer assistance for all ages and family activities through most of the year. It also offers cooking, crafts and sports classes for youth, women's support groups, a community thrift store and life skills such as resume writing.

 

Parents Reading Children Succeeding - Designed for parents of children three to five years old. Focus of the parent portion is to share with parents ideas and activities that will help them support ther learning and emergent literacy skill development of their preschool children. Parents gain knowledge by participating in discussions and activities that offer them opportunities to practise their own literacy skills. Offered in Sparwood (Mountain View Elementary School) Elkford (Rocky Mountain Elementary School) and Fernie (Max Turyk).
