Bridges to Learning is CBAL’s newest project.  The project is related to the development of a skills and learning inventory and strategy as part of a broader community led development plan.  The project is the first stage in the development of a Community Learning Network for the Arrow and Slocan Lakes region, and a model for communities in the Columbia Basin.

Citizens in the communities of the Arrow and Slocan Lakes region were invited to participate in the following Skills Inventory, The Community Pride Survey.

Community Maps

In depth community mapping was done in the Arrow and Slocan Lakes communities:

Nakusp, Edgewood, Fauquier, Burton, New Denver and Silverton.

 

Our Community Learning Network (CLN)

Our Community Learning Network is located at 98 6th Ave NW (in the School District 10 board office,

next to the Nakusp Public Library, Museum and Village Office building).

Our CLN has been provided through a partnership between the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy,

School District 10, Arrow Lakes and the Nakusp Public Library.

The CLN has:

  • 10 public access computers with High Speed Internet service.
  • Scanners, photocopying, CD burning, faxing and printing services.
  • One on one training support for basic computer and literacy skills upgrading.
  • Meeting space for community groups.
  • Video editing equipment
  • Library borrowing of regional literacy collection.
  • coffee and a friendly atmosphere for learning.
  • Coming soon a community radio station.
